(September 10, 2001, Hong Kong) - Thiz Technology
Group Limited, ("Thiz" or the "Group"; Stock
Exchange of Hong Kong: 8119), aiming to be the world's favorite
Linux application software provider, today announced its strategic
alliances with Taiwan listed Well Communication Corp. ("Well
Communication"; Taiwan Stock Exchange: 5479), along with Shenzhen
Fenghua Telecom Co. Ltd. ("Fenghua"), a subsidiary of
Guangdong Fenghua Advanced Technology (Holdings) Co., Ltd., to produce
and to distribute DVD set-top box operated by Chinese Thiz Linux
software in the PRC market. At the same time, the Group announced
its cooperation with C.com Technology Ltd. ("C.com") to
provide Thiz Linux@School software and computer server product for
the HuaiFang Education Department of Shandong Province. The strategic
alliances will further strengthen Thiz's leading position in the
Greater China market.
Cooperation of Thiz, Well Communication and FenghuaˇG
According to the agreement, Thiz will provide the first Chinese
Linux-based set-top box software in the world, while the set-top
box will be produced by Well Communication and distributed through
Fenghua's extensive sales network under the brand name, "Thiz".
This cooperation will not only expand Thiz's product range to include
non-PC related products, but will also solidify its sales network
in the PRC and strengthen the distribution power of its Linux application
software.
Commenting on the cooperation, Mr. Gary Wang, Vice
Chairman of Well Communication, said, 'The Linux operating system
is competitively priced, with low hardware requirement and is highly
reliable. We expect to see an increase in the usage of Linux as
the operating software of DVD set-top box and eventually become
the industry standard. With Thiz's leading R&D capability, they
can tailor-made quality software at a relatively low price to satisfy
our requirements. After using Linux operating software, our set-top
box can be competitively priced thus increasing its popularity.
At the same time, leveraging on Fenghua's distribution network and
"Thiz" brand name effect, we can enter the PRC set-top
box market effectively to enlarge our existing market share.'
